Donnelly & Foley is a multi- disciplinary firm of financial brokers, registered tax advisers, accounting & business consultants.
We work with a cross range of clients providing cross border tax support.
We were approached by Mr O’G in January 202X, with a view to reviewing his UK and Irish tax affairs.
Mr O’G lives in NI and had taken up employment in ROI. He had been previously self-employed in NI having run his business as a limited company.
Unfortunately the administrative affairs of his NI business had run into arrears (despite using the services of a NI accountant) and HMRC had issued penalties and interest amounting to £2,434 for three years in respect of his wife and £3,542 for three years in respect of himself, based on the late filing of self assessment tax returns.
We successfully appealed to HMRC that based on their personal circumstances that the penalties and interest should be waived. This was accepted by HMRC and thus Mr O’G and his wife did not have to pay a total of £5,976 in penalties and interest.
In addition, as a result of our submissions to the Irish Revenue Commissioners, Mr O’G received Irish tax refunds amounting to €28,188 for the tax years 202S to 202W based on his personal circumstances.
We continue to submit annual tax claims to the Irish Revenue Commissioners on behalf of Mr O’G which yield substantial tax refunds each year.
We were approached by our client who lives in N.I. and is employed under Irish PAYE as a fisherman from January 201S. He fishes off the coast of Donegal and his wife is a homemaker.
We carried out a detailed review of his Irish tax affairs and identified that based on his personal circumstances as a married PAYE fisherman he was entitled to the following annual Tax Refunds that were paid out by the Irish Revenue Commissioners.
TAX YEAR & REFUND
201A: €2,822
201B: €2,818
201C: €6,222
201D: €9,122
Since 201S we have submitted Annual Claims for Irish Tax Refunds which have resulted in the following Tax Refunds.
TAX YEAR & REFUND
201S: €11,789
201T: €12,702
202U: €10,123
202V: €10,931
The overall position is that since he first approached our office in 201S we have obtained Irish Tax Refunds amounting to €66,529 on his behalf.
In addition, using the available tax legislation, we have ensured that he has no further UK Tax Liability and ensured that all his UK Tax Returns are up to date.
